Patricia tells us about her role within the Careers in Asia team.

Born: Taiwan

Job title: Recruitment Team Intern

Time in the UK: 2 years

Background: MA Advertising and Marketing Communication; graduated with Health Care Administration BA degree

How have you found your time in the UK?

The UK is a vibrant country and there are many ways to enjoy it. I love going to parties and meeting new friends from different countries. Also I enjoy a pint in the pub, watching football, or going to the park to enjoy the sunshine.

What do you think of the work Careers in Asia do?

What Careers in Asia is doing now is finding the right candidates for the right positions across Asia. We are going to have the Careers in Asia London Summit in February 2012 and we are all excited about this! It is going to be the biggest event for us in the year. With the career opportunities it provides, I would personally suggest that anyone who is thinking of returning to Asia apply to attend.

Where do you see the employment market heading for 2012?

It is definitely all about Asia. Since the economic downturn, everyone has been talking about Asia when it comes to business. Rapid growth and recovery from the crisis means that business in Asia needs more people to keep up with the growth. That means they are all recruiting. Compared with what is happening in these so-called developed countries such as the UK, US and European countries, the Asian market is continuing to grow and continuing to recruit. Asia is where you should look for 2012!

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Getting new people on board! We have got these exciting opportunities and we would like to let as many people as possible know about what we can do for them. It is sometimes easier said than done. Although it is not an easy thing to do, we are still trying our best to spread the word about Careers in Asia, and hope to have more people find out about our amazing services and career opportunities across Asia.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

As I mentioned earlier, we are hosting the Careers in Asia London Summit on 10-12 February 2012. For this event, I am in charge with the social media aspects. Tweeting interesting Asia business news, keeping people updated with our event via Facebook, as well as on Linkedin, is what I do everyday. It is more challenging than I thought it would be but it is also extremely rewarding. That is because, in this case, I am also playing the role of ‘match maker’ at the same time. We match jobs/careers opportunities for candidates. As for all match makers, it is such an amazing moment when we find a perfect match. So I would say that the most rewarding part of my job is that when people show their interest in our services and we provide the career opportunity they’ve been longing for.

The next Careers in Asia Recruitment Summit will take place 10 – 12 February 2012. To apply to attend and meet with recruiting managers from up to 20 companies, visit www.careersinasia.com/london.
